Telling it Like it is
Hi all
I hope you have been using the sunshine as an excuse to get in some relaxation and pause for breath. We’ve been increasingly busy at Grit and we’re definitely finding that focussing on the present moment and celebrating the stories of change that we hear from our participants is helping us maintain our sense of purpose and balance.
As the end of the academic year approaches we have continued to work at quite a pace with new programmes for our Warwickshire schools, new university partnerships springing up and some exciting new work with professionals in local authority Children’s Services teams.
This variety of work is really important to us as it allows us to think about how we impact young people through a number of ‘touch-points’ – we want to be part of ‘changing the conversation’ about and for young people and this requires us to work at breadth as well as depth. This makes the new projects for teams of professionals in Haringey, Redcar & Cleveland and a new one in Allerdale particularly energising – you can see below some of the changes staff are already able to recognise and the ways they will alter their practice.
I’d love you to have a read of my blog on judgement below and let me know your thoughts, insights and feedback. Please also read and share the job opportunity we have coming up to join our team as a Programme Manager. This role will sit at the heart of Grit’s work, if you want to work in a tight-knit team in a ‘make things happen’ environment with strong values at its centre – this could be for you!
All the best for an amazing, relaxing and rejuvenating summer,
Ellie
Grit in Allerdale
We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a brand new partnership with Allerdale Council. It’s all about transforming the response to young people’s anti-social behaviour, on breaking out of the cycle of short term, reactive solutions.
Work starts in the autumn!
Telling it like it is
“I don’t want to tell you EVERYTHING that I’ve gained because I want you to come in and see for yourself.”
Faith from Nottingham Trent University talks about her experience of our Black Leadership Programme.
Grit in press
“Wow.... what an emotionally powerful end to an amazing three days.”
The last two weeks we’ve been work with Children and Family Services at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and the Young Adults Service at Haringey Council, as part of a pilot bringing Grit in alongside Signs of Safety.
Here, on the Association of Directors of Children's Services blog, Kathryn Boulton, Corporate Director Children and Family Services in Redcar, reflects on her experience of the Grit workshop.
… and here Warwickshire County Council report on the fantastic four-day intensive workshops we ran with young people in the county: first at Nuneaton Academy and the second at Hartshill Academy.
“Grit gave someone who believed in me, someone who believed I could change, someone who helped me focus on the positives instead of the negatives. So, when I look back on how far I’ve come I’m still surprised at myself. It’s unbelievable!”
