New Shoots
Welcome to our November newsletter.
It seems impossible that we are so far through the autumn term already and heading into winter. I hope you are all weathering that journey well.
We’re really excited to see new shoots appearing in terms of our work with schools this year. You’ll see in this newsletter that we have been working with Black pupils in schools across Nottinghamshire and also are re-launching our programme for three schools in West London (after a successful pilot last year).
This is a special passion of mine. It’s how I started out in Grit many years ago, and as a team we all feel strongly that young people would gain so much from having this kind of in-depth, self-reflective opportunity during the challenges of their teenage years in secondary education. Understanding yourself is hard at the best of times but critically important when making key decisions about who you are and who you can be as a young person.

Future Leaders

The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Partnership (DANCOP) is a regional collaboration of universities and colleges. Earlier this year, as part of their Future Leaders project, Grit worked with year 10 students of Black heritage. DANCOP have just published a report on the successes of the project. Read it here …
All change in cyberspace
We’ve been busy refreshing our website recently. There are new and expanded sections on our programmes in universities, with students of colour, in schools & colleges and with staff teams.
We’ve got some new testimonials, different films and participant stories, and we’re continuing to update the news section.

Volunteers wanted

We are so excited to be back in west London working in partnership with the Harrow Club (a charity running five fantastic youth clubs for young people locally) and three of their key partner secondary schools. And we're looking for volunteers to join the programme!
You should be based in west London and/or able to travel to North Kensington for training and to deliver the coaching. You’ll be passionate about making a difference with young people, about supporting young people to turn their lives around and really make the most of their education.
